Carrier-data interview guide
๐ ๏ธ Carrier-data interview guide
๐ก Use Case
- Twelve questions for ๐ Run eight carrier-data interviews, written on 9 September and reordered after the second conversation.
- One guide for both of us, so that Zainab Karimi's four interviews and my four can be laid side by side.
- Each conversation ends up as one page in the format of ๐งญ Interview snapshot; the guide only gets us there.
How I use it
The order that worked, after two that did not:
- Tell me about the last time a carrier let you down. What happened first?
- How did you find out?
- What did you do in the next hour?
- Where did you write it down, if anywhere?
- When did you last decide between two carriers? What was on the table?
- Which numbers do you already keep about carriers?
- Which of those do you trust?
- Who else looks at them?
- If a carrier saw its own score, what would it do?
- What would make a score unfair?
- What have you stopped measuring, and why?
- What did I not ask?
What moved
The fairness question began at number 3 and killed two conversations. At number 10 people answer it at length. All of this feeds ๐ Carrier Scorecards discovery.
โ๏ธ Pros & Cons
Pros
- Twelve questions fit in forty minutes with room for silence.
- It starts with a story, not an opinion. Question 1 asks about the last time, never about usually.
Cons
- Question 9 leads the witness and I kept it anyway.
- A guide makes a careful interviewer lazy. By interview six I was waiting for my turn.
๐ Alternatives
- No guide and good manners. Fine for one interview, useless for comparing eight.
- A survey, which would have told us what people think they do.
