Exceptions Inbox wireframe kit
๐ ๏ธ Exceptions Inbox wireframe kit
๐ก Use Case
- Tomasz Wilk's grey-box components for the Exceptions Inbox, started on 21 October 2024, the second week of ๐ Exceptions Inbox pilot with Kestrel Cargo. His, not mine; this note is so I know what each piece is for. Fictional product.
- Eight pieces: the list row, the type chip (one per exception code), the age badge, the filter bar, the detail drawer, the bulk-action bar, the digest card that came back from Rotterdam, and the empty state.
- Everything is grey on purpose. No colour, no real copy, boxes for pictures. A wireframe that looks finished gets feedback about the blue.
- All three options at โ Design critique - empty states on 26 February were built from it in an afternoon, so the argument was about the idea.
โ๏ธ Pros & Cons
Pros
- Three options before anyone asks is only possible because each one costs him an hour.
- I can move the boxes myself to show what I mean, badly, and he then does it properly.
- The age badge exists as a component because a dispatcher in the pilot said the list was old at the bottom. The kit remembers things like that.
Cons
- Grey boxes hide length. A list row in the kit holds one line; a real exception at Kestrel wraps to three.
- A wireframe list has seven tidy rows. The real one had 214, and no kit shows you 214.
- It is one person's file. When Tomasz is on holiday nobody else opens it.
๐ Alternatives
- Pen and paper, which is where each of his options starts anyway.
- Designing straight in the real components. Faster to something shippable, slower to something right.
