Work listening. A former product lead interviews people who build products, for an hour or more, with show notes better organised than most of my specs. Everyone on my team subscribes. First logged on 2025-01-15-Wednesday, on the tram, before a one-to-one I was not looking forward to.
I skip more than I play. Roughly four in five. The rule that has emerged:
- Play when the guest has spent years on one narrow thing: interviewing customers, pricing, how a team decides what to build.
- Skip anything with a growth number in the title, anything about a company a hundred times the size of Halden, and every episode that promises a framework. I have frameworks.
The host is a careful interviewer and asks the follow-up I would ask. My difficulty is with the genre. Forty guests in a row have a confident answer, and my job mostly consists of situations where nobody does.
Useful for ♦️ Product discovery, and for knowing what Sam Okoye has just heard when he arrives with a new word.
Play or skip: Skip unless the guest wrote a book I own

⏱️TIMESTAMPS
From the discovery episode. Approximate.
- 12:00 an interview is a story about the last time, never a question about the future
- 27:00 map the opportunity before the solution, and expect to redraw it
- 44:00 what to do when the sales team owns the customers. I needed this one
