TOOL
Rules for this vault
๐ ๏ธ Rules for this vault
๐ก Use Case
- One page, written on Sunday 5 January, the same afternoon as ๐ Use this system for ninety days without changing it. It says what I may not change and where the urge goes instead.
- Four systems before this one each died of improvement. See ๐ง The tool is never the problem, which I believe on most days.
- Reviewed once, on 5 April, and extended for the year without edits.
How I use it
May not change
- Folders, templates, properties, note types. No structural changes.
- Plugins and themes: none added, none removed.
- The hotkeys and searches in Vault hotkeys and saved searches. Eight and four. Changing them counts.
Must do 4. Inbox processed on Sundays. 5. A literature note within a week of finishing a source, or not at all. 6. A permanent note only when I can state a claim. 7. Every urge to change something goes on the itch list with a date, and stays there.
Around it
- Backed up to ๐ณ Cloud storage; the restore was tested once.
- What a language model may and may not do in here is on its own page: House rules for using a model.
โ๏ธ Pros & Cons
Pros
- It fits on one screen, so I cannot claim to have forgotten a rule.
- The itch list turns I must fix this now into a line of text. Nineteen lines by April, and I wanted none of them a month later.
Cons
- It is a rule against my favourite hobby.
- It does not say what to do when a rule is simply wrong. So far none has been, which proves less than it seems to.
๐ Alternatives
- Willpower, which lost four times.
- A fifth system of my own design. It would have been ready by about March and I would have written nothing in it.
