🎯CORE THESIS

Doing well with money has little to do with how clever you are and a lot to do with how you behave, and behaviour is shaped by the particular slice of history you happened to live through. The skill that matters most is the least technical one: deciding what enough is and getting the goalpost to stay where you put it. After that, what money really buys is control over your own time.

⚡QUICK JOTS

  • Started for ten minutes on 31 March, the night before the midterm, as a way of not revising. Finished on 11 April, the evening after the workshop at Brightwater.
  • Twenty short chapters that read like twenty essays, because the book grew out of one long online essay. Some repeat each other. Two of them I will remember.
  • Read with one question in my head: how big does the sabbatical fund actually need to be, and who decided the number. See 🎯 Fill the sabbatical fund to 18,000 euros.
  • He is not telling me what to buy, which is why I trusted him. The book is about behaviour and almost never about products.
  • Book six towards 🎯 Finish 16 books and keep notes on the ones that matter.
  • Read beside 🏛️ Seneca, a very rich man who wrote that the poor one is whoever craves more. His line about putting life off, 💬 While we are postponing, life speeds, is the case for the fund in a sentence, and it is the quote I file here in place of anything from a book in copyright.
