Side income rules summary
๐ TL;DR / Quick Summary <div style="background: rgba(0,0,0,0.3); border: 1px dashed rgba(255,255,255,0.2); padding: 15px; border-radius: 8px; color: rgba(255,255,255,0.7); margin-bottom: 30px;"> What Viktor Halasz explained when I asked about the Hamburg honorarium, written down the same Saturday so that I do not ask him twice. Notes to myself about my own case, not advice, and not a description of the law. The open question it leads to is โ Register the side income as a business. </div>
๐ ๏ธ Instructions / Core Material
- Occasional and regular are treated differently. A fee here and there goes on the yearly return as other income. Income that recurs, has clients and sends invoices starts to look like a business whether or not I call it one.
- Mine has started to look regular. 2025 comes to about 4,800 euros: two workshops (1,400 and 1,600), six sponsored slots, the guest essay (350) and the panel (250). Two of those invoices fall in one month.
- There is a threshold, and I am on the wrong side of comfortable. He gave me the figure; it is in the decision note with its date, because it changes.
- Registering is a form at the ๐๏ธ Port Vellan Revenue Office, a number to print on invoices, and a simple yearly statement of money in and money out. He called it an afternoon of paperwork and an evening of feeling grown up.
- What changes if I do: costs can be set against the income (the platform, the course at least in part, the train to Hamburg), and the invoices need the number on them.
- What does not change: it is all declared either way. It has been on every return since the first sponsor.
- Deadline: decide before the next return. He would rather see me in February than in May.
โ ๏ธ Key Warnings / Constraints
- This is one adviser's explanation of one small case. If the numbers double, ask again.
- Keep every invoice and every receipt in the month's folder as now. The first-Sunday paperwork already does this; registering would not add a habit, only a column.
- Employment contract first: side work is allowed if declared, and it is declared.
- His office is ๐ง Halasz Tax & Accounts, above the bakery. Bring the folder, not a summary of the folder.
